StrideBox review time! For those who don't know, StrideBox is a subscription box for runners. For $15 a month, you get a sampling of the latest gadgets, gizmos and nutrition for runners. The value almost always exceeds the price, and this month is no exception. It's a great way to try out new products. Plus, it's fun to get a surprise in the mail each month, in between the bills and junk mail.
So far, I've received and reviewed 10 StrideBoxes. To this point, all the products I've tried been mostly great and useful, sprinkled with a few "okays." But there's no way around it; the Sweat Absorbing Disposable liner in this month's box was just awful. The premise is, you insert this disposable liner into your heat while running or exercising to absorb sweat. First, I honestly thought it was a silly idea. You run with a cap, your cap's going to get sweaty and sweat is going to drip down your face. Wash the hat. Deal with the sweat. But still, I dutifully inserted the product into the front of my cap as per the instructions. When i put my cap on my head and started my run, it kept flying off. The material did not provide enough traction to stay put– in fact, I would call it anti-traction. Not a good combination with my baby-fine hair. I finally peeled out the insert and threw it in the trash. It was basically useless. And not eco-friendly.
Happily, all the other stuff was great. My favorite product is the eco-friendly gel-holder. You can make your own carbs to take on your long run and load them in this reusable BPA-free/Phthalate-free/Lead-free/PVC-free dishwasher-safe holder. It holds 3 ounces and gives you more control over what you put in your body – and because it's reusable, it's kind to Mama Earth. Only downside is that it's a bit large. Wait. Or is that an upside?
I'm really loving this onth's sticker: "When nothing goes right, go run." Going for a run usually puts problems in perspective. Nothing seems as bad after a run. Thank you, endorphin rush.
Bunches of Crunches Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt Granola Clusters were totally delicious and made from whole foods. Non-GMO and gluten-free. Again, not vegan because of honey.
I tried the Betwixt skin lubricant during this weekend's 17-mile run. It is vegan and is made from plant-based ingredients. It felt natural and non-greasy & kept me chafe-free. This is a keeper, and I will definitely purchase this after my BodyGlide stick runs out.
I don't usually consume pre-workout drinks because I don't like having to go to the bathroom during my runs, nor do I relish running with "tidal wave stomach" – that "glug-glug-glug" sound you get when you run with liquid in your stomach. (The instructions say to drink this 20 minutes before a workout.) I will probably give this EBoost POW a try while I'm marathon training, but I will drink it a few hours before my run. The Berry Melon flavor sounds refreshing.
I am not going to lie: The name "Screamin' Energy Mix" scares me a little, because I am already naturally caffeinated and high energy. So I am wondering what will happen when I try this. But I will try it, probably before a long run when I don't have time to down a coffee beforehand. I like that it also contains B12.
